I have to say that this is the type of song that is usually right up my alley. And this isn’t an exception.
Conrad Sewell is new to me. As per usual, I’ve been missing what’s been going on in pop music. His song ‘Hold Me Up’ gets pretty significant airplay, although I’m not a huge fan of it. That being said, when I’ve asked if people know or like his music, it seems that most people like one or the other of those two songs. So I’m going to post ‘Hold Me Up’ below for anyone that hasn’t heard it, with ‘Start Again’ above. I’m curious, which one do you like?
I personally believe that the variety of songs like this are what is going to make or break his chances at success.
Conrad Sewell comes from Australia, but moved to London as soon as he turned 18 (he is now 27). At some point, he then moved to Los Angeles to team up with some of the biggest producers in the music business. In fact, ‘Hold Me Up’ was helped along by a regular Lady Gaga producer, Brian Lee.
‘Start Again’ was co-written by Sewell and he originally intended it for Kylie Minogue, but eventually deciding that it wasn’t her type of song. So he gave the song a go himself, recording the entire track in one take, which is pretty impressive. He said that the emotion just flowed out of him and later suggested, “I need to be singing soulful music like this!”
His older sister is also a burgeoning artist that is likely to be seen around named Grace. Conrad was featured on a EDM song by DJ Kygo from Norway. The song, ‘Firestone,’ has been hitting the charts pretty successfully since it’s release in March, charting in the top five in numerous countries.
