This is very beautiful song. I love to just keep Bon Iver playing in the background because it’s so calming.
This song was received by critics as one of the best songs and videos of 2011. In fact, it was nominated for Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards, although it lost that year to a song by Adele.
One blogger wrote that the video “should serve as proof that the art of the music video is not dead.” In fact, the video was such a beautiful demonstration of the beauty of Iceland, where it was filmed, that the video debuted on the National Geographic Channel.

As for the song, Rolling Stone magazine declared it the 22nd best song of 2011, stating, “‘[Holocene]’ takes sensitive-guy poetry somewhere sublime.”
The lead member of the band started writing music when he was going through a particularly rough patch in his life and secluded himself to a cabin in northern Wisconsin. He named the band after the French phrase bon hiver, meaning good winter. However, he chose to purposely misspell it, although the pronunciation is correct with the way he spelled it.
