I think it’s well known that country is not my forte, as I believe I’ve posted about only one other country song ever. I know little about that world of music, but not necessarily because I dislike it. It’s just not the first genre of music I go to on the radio dial. But I do appreciate a good country song now and again.
I stumbled across this song by Thomas Rhett. It actually took me a little bit of listening to it to finally convince myself it was actually country and not just a singer-songwriter piece, like Ray LaMontagne or something. But I was immediately surprised by the name, thinking that it was interesting that his last name was the same as the first name of a famous country singer.
Well, my surprise turned to complete understanding when I started reading about the Georgia native. Not only is he a much bigger name than I knew, but he is indeed the son of Rhett Atkins, a huge name in country for many years. It turns out that Thomas Rhett is just his stage name, having been born Thomas Rhett Atkins, Jr.
Turns out the Rhett, now 25, is a big name these days. He’s released two huge albums. His freshman album charted a total of five singles and his sophomore charting two, including this one, ‘Die A Happy Man,’ which is just now starting to wane down the lists since its release in September.
Rhett was married at the age of 22 to a girl he’s known since they were in first grade. In fact, that is indeed her in this video, which I think is pretty cool. It’s also not surprising to me that he’s married given his charming good looks and innocent smile.
I’ll leave you with one more video for all of you Bruno Mars fans out there. Here is Mr. Rhett making a country cover of ‘When I Was Your Man.’ It’s both surprising and good.
