Pink Broke The Pop Mold After Her Second Album
Popcorn & TV – Celebrate Woman Today

Pink Rocks The House, Proving She’s Not For The Light-Hearted With ‘Try’

If you thought Pink was still singing in the bubblegum genre of pop, with a host of songs that were empty in meaning and passion, you’d be mistaken.

There are few artists that I enjoy listening to more than Pink (or, as she spells it, P!nk).

Pink originally came out of the pop and R&B scene in 2000, being tied together with the likes of Brittany Spears and Christina Aguilera, not the least because she was featured in the song ‘Lady Marmalade’ with the latter which was featured on the movie Moulin Rouge.

Thankfully, however, she took more artistic control of her work after the poor performance of her second album. Over the years, moreover, she grew up and her music and lyrics developed with her. Her last few albums have been beautiful, powerful, and emotional. No, I don’t like all of the material, but a large majority of it.

If you ask me (and since you’re reading this, I’m going to pretend like you did!), Pink is producing some of the most beautiful and passionate music today. I honestly don’t think anyone is producing music like hers today, and certainly no one is consistently writing lyrics like hers.

As it turns out, I’m not alone in my sentiment. After her performance at the 2012 American Music Awards, a CNN music critic had this to say: “…our culture’s biggest sin may well be the auto-tuned syrup we’ve allowed to dominate the pop charts. All-time chart records are handed to vacuous acts such as the Black Eyed Peas and singing awards are given to vocal lightweights such as Taylor Swift […] But thank God for Pink. […] While Christina Aguilera has a tendency to oversing, Britney Spears can’t sing, and Lauryn Hill sorta stopped singing, Pink has managed to carve a brilliant 13-year-career by being something that is incredibly rare these days — an artist.”

Adele has similar sentiments, having watched her live when she was 13 or 14, saying “I had never heard, being in the room, someone sing like that live. I remember sort of feeling like I was in a wind tunnel, her voice just hitting me. It was incredible.” She described it as a defining moment in her life.

Taken as a whole, I think Pink is one of the best and most important artists of her generation.

Pink has been a powerful force since debuting in 2000.
