I’m not entirely sure how this song escaped me back in 2012, but it did. I missed it completely. I had never heard it until recently.
But Alicia Keys is incredible. Of course she’s stunning and classy, but she has one of the most powerful and beautiful voices in music today.
It’s no wonder that she’s been given so many accolades over the years. I was impressed, although not surprised, to see that she’s made basically every list of top whatever for everything from female artists, artists in the past 25 years, and best artists, doled out by MTV, Billboard, VH1, others. Basically, everyone loves her. Understandably so.
Alicia Augello Cook is her birth name, with Keys just being a stage name. The 34 year old grew up in Hell’s Kitchen in New York and was raised primarily by her mother.
She was classically trained in the piano and started writing songs at the age of 14. Her sheer ability as a musician was clear from early on when she graduated as valedictorian from the Professional Performing Arts School at the age of 16.
Alicia Keys was married in 2010 and has had two children. She’s also been busy writing children’s books and recording a new studio album to be released next year.
Having sort of lost track of her recently, I’m glad I came across ‘Girl on Fire’ so that I can watch for her next album. I, for one, have high hopes.
Alicia Keys could easily have chosen to be a model by the looks of it, but instead decided to become one of the most important musical artists of all time.
