I really enjoy the deep groove this song has going for it. I find that I regularly play the video in the background as I’m doing other things. It’s so relaxing, while not being boring.
Warpaint is an all-girls band that formed eleven years ago in Los Angeles. Originally composed of childhood friends, the makeup has changed only slightly since then. The girls, as it turns out are all about the same age as Regina Spektor, Sara Bareilles, P!nk, and Ingrid Michaelson. Truly, there must have been something in the water in the late 1979 and early 1980 time-frame.
Although the band formed in California, and have been touring throughout the U.S., they have mostly been making waves in Europe, particularly the U.K. In fact, in a poll of music critics and industry figures with the BBC, they were nominated for Sound of 2011. Winners of the Sound of… awards have included Adele, Mika, Sam Smith, and Ellie Goulding, among other notables.
This song, ‘Billie Holiday’, comes from Warpaint’s deluxe edition of their album The Fool. Warpaint has performed at basically all of the biggest music festivals in the U.S., and I suspect will be around for a long time to come.
