I’m serious. I really do think about this video every time I take a ride up an escalator.
I absolutely love this video. It’s such a fun and unexpected video. While I, like most people I’m sure, have always liked and appreciated the work of Christopher Walken, this video positively endeared me to him.
Fatboy Slim, the stage name of a man named Norman Cook, made this incredible video back in 2001 with the help of Spike Jonze behind the lens. In fact, the video itself won both MTV Music Awards and a Grammy Award.
Cook is a British DJ who helped popularize the musical genre big beats, which included other rather big names The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, and The Prodigy. The style of music peaked in the mid to late 1990s, with this song coming at the end of that era.
Norman Cook was born in 1963 and hung around the British music charts in one form or another from the early 1980s to well into the 2000s, originally as a bassist for a rock band called The Housemartins.
For his part, the now 72 year old Queens native Christopher Walken originally studied dance before moving onto the dramatic arts. That explains his definite and undeniable ability to dance.
