Cello Wars Is A Hilarious Spoof On The Star Wars Motif That You Need To See

I couldn’t stop laughing watching this. It keeps getting better and better. I particularly like the appearances by Chewbacca and Darth Vader. I’m actually really impressed by the production value of this video, too.

‘Cello Wars’ was done by the The Piano Guys, who I wrote about earlier this week, but it’s easily one of the funniest videos I’ve seen in a while. You have to watch it all the way to the end because even the plug is funny.

This project came about because they were shooting a video for another song and their video production guy decided to make the cello bow look like a light saber as a joke. The cello player in both, Steven Sharp Nelson, showed the video to his 6 year old son, who loved watching his dad wield a light saber. So in homage to John Williams, they decided to make a song and video using the epic Star Wars music.

The production took a LOT longer than they ever expected. They ended up needing 24 hours of time in front of a green screen, countless hours in editing the film and the music, and Nelson (yes, he’s both the Jedi and the Sith) broken numerous strings and bows during the filming.

As I’ve explored more and more of the work of The Piano Guys, I’ve decided that their name is a bit of a misnomer. They play these cellos at least as often as the piano. This is certainly not a complaint, as I really like cellos. And this is a really good use of them.
