Maybe it’s just me, since I don’t listen to a lot of them, but this song seems to be an upbeat departure for Coldplay. The song, ‘A Sky Full of Stars,’ incorporates a lot of synth-pop, which seems different from their usual type of music, which is usually very piano-heavy.
In any case, I really like the result. It’s a very upbeat and fun.
When I watch videos like this, I like to think about how it was made. The video makes it look like it was a spontaneous event, which clearly it’s not. It’s made to look like the fans are just randomly following frontman Chris Daniels (who for ten years was married to and has two children with Gwyneth Paltrow) as he walks along.
Coldplay is coming up to their 20th year as a band, which is a lifespan far exceeding many of today’s big acts. Perhaps the key to that long life is demonstrated by this song, always subtly tweaking their music to tailor to the interests of fans.

This a new song for me. I really don’t listen to Cold Play much… My daughter does like them though. I’m kind of liking the video too. That really didn’t cost them much did it.? hehehe Thanks for sharing and introducing such a neat song to me. 🙂
I haven’t heard this song by Coldplay before. It’s sounds pretty good, and the video looks like it’s lots of fun.
My husband I went to see them in concert in Dallas and it was so moving. Very nice performance. I bet this was loads of fun!
I have always loved Coldplay and their music. I agree with you that one of the reasons why they’re probably still there compared to other one-hit-wonder-bands is because they’re very creative. They always come out with something fresh that makes the people who love their music love them even more. A Sky Full of Stars is my 2014 soundtracks – it’s been on repeat over and over and over. I like that it’s upbeat. During my events, if I needed to go up on stage I’ve asked tech booth to make this my walk-in music. Lol.

Wow! Coldplay has been around for 20 years – I officially feel old after reading this! This song does seem like a switch from what I’ve listened to from them in the past but in a great way. Love it – thanks for sharing!
