There are few artists that I appreciate more than the adorable, quirky, and deeply talented Regina Spektor, a Bronx transplant from Moscow.
A girl with a uniquely American story, one reviewer from NPR described her music as “moving to a degree that’s practically paralyzing.” I couldn’t agree more!
This song, The Party, rings in the New Year by celebrating the excitement of the festivities while also raising a glass to the past that can’t be relived.
As you’ll see, she has a penchant for using her mouth to perform instrumental sounds that she doesn’t have with her when she’s writing her music and yet keeps that in the finished product also. I love it!
Regina Spektor seems to have reached a perfect degree of fame, achieving acclaim and engendering a loyal following, but could very well go about her daily life without too much harassment from fans.
I’m also including in this post her cover of the Peggy Lee song My Dear Acquiantance (A Happy New Year). It’s a beautiful rendition that shouldn’t be missed as we all ring in the New Year!
Happy New Year everyone!
