I have been known to post clips from talk shows and the like, but it’s not normally my thing. However, the announcement that Will Smith might be coming back to both the small screen and a musical tour with DJ Jazzy Jeff, plus the sheer fun of this video, has compelled me to post this.
Will Smith, as we all know, was once the actor of actors, with everything he touched producing gold. In 2007, we was named the most powerful actor in Hollywood by Newsweek. But that’s now been eight years. Since then, he’s been around, but hasn’t released music or had a huge box office hit.
However, the 47 year old Philly native is looking to get back into the limelight. He just announced on a radio show that he is planning a world tour for next summer with his old pal DJ Jazzy Jeff and that he’s recorded about 30 songs recently, a half dozen or so of which he says he really, really likes.
As far as other things, he says that Bad Boys 3 could potentially come out in the next year to sixteen months. Also, he is said to be producing a reboot of Fresh Prince of Bel Air, although it’s unclear as to whether or not he’d be in it.
As far as the video above, I’m not a huge rap fan, as you may have guessed, so I was unclear whether or not Jimmy Fallon and Smith were freestyle rapping. They aren’t. Here’s the video of the original song:
The original song is actually pretty awesome! It’s by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock and was released, not surprisingly based on the video, in 1988.
Will Smith hasn’t had a true blockbuster for quite a number of years, which might explain is return to music.
